Bradford Park Avenue face the first of two semi-finals in four days tomorrow when they head for Matlock Town for their showdown in the UniBond League Challenge Cup.

Trevor Storton's Premier Division side take on teams from the lower tier of the UniBond in both Matlock and Farsley Celtic who they meet in a derby clash on Tuesday in the last four of the West Riding County Cup.

Avenue would have been installed as favourites to reach the finals of both competitions if the ties were at Horsfall Stadium but the leveller is that they have been drawn away from home twice.

The boss says that should not matter to his players: "It is a bit of a disappointment not to have at least one of them at home but the pitch is no different wherever you play.

"It's not as if there are 40,000 home supporters acting like an extra man. If we are ready for it and up for it we can beat them. It's all about the mental attitude of the players.

"The cup runs have kept the players focused and helped them through when we have not been doing too well in the league. We are almost mid-table now and we can turn our attention to the semi's starting tomorrow.

"It would be nice for the supporters and the board, who have been brilliant, if we could get to both finals. That way we would have an even chance of ending the season with a trophy."

Avenue have just one change to the squad who were on duty for last weekend's 1-0 home victory over second placed Lancaster City.

Winger Dean Calcutt returns from a four match ban but centre back Neil Bagshaw is ruled out through illness.

Guiseley are also in cup action, they travel to Gainsborough in the semi-finals of the President's Cup, a competition which is ranked second to the Challenge Cup and above the lesser Chairman's Cup.

As with Avenue's tie this one pits a Premier Division side against a division one team but it will be Gainsborough from the top tier who have home advantage.

That sees the smart money on them to progress but it also puts the onus and all the pressure on them. "We will be going there with nothing to lose," said Guiseley manager Neil Parsley after last Saturday's 2-0 win over Ashton United in the league.

"It's a big game that they will be expected to win, but we have won three league games on the spin, are high on confidence and have a great team spirit. Anything can happen." He also names an unchanged squad but hints that there could be changes to the starting line-up.
