A Silsden off-licence manager is appealing for public co-operation after being reported to Trading Standards for selling alcohol to minors.

Linda Craven, of Craven's off-licence, received a letter from the Trading Standards Department saying that someone had reported the shop for selling alcohol to underage customers.

Mrs Craven recently pledged her commitment to stamping out underage drinking in the town in the Keighley News.

She says: "I got the letter through from Trading Standards on Wednesday morning.

"I am 99.9 percent sure that we have not sold alcohol to any one underage, and 100 per cent sure that we would never knowingly do it.

"So I was saddened to get the letter saying someone had made a complaint about us. We have a very difficult job here but I just wouldn't ever risk selling to minors."

She is appealing for information from the person who reported her, and adds: "I don't think it has happened in our shop but if it has I want to know about it. I want to know who, what and when so we can stop it happening again.

"There's no good not coming to me. I'll need details and would appreciate the help. I can't deal with this in the dark."

Mrs Craven said all the people who work in the shop were trusted employees and friends, and added that they were all committed to this cause.

Trading Standards told Mrs Craven that no further action would be taken in this instance, but that if future complaints were supported with evidence, court proceedings could be taken with a possible maximum fine of £1,000.

"We take this very seriously. I am willing to be videoed in the shop all day. I won't be angry but just want the person who made the complaint to come forward," said Mrs Craven.

"I don't think we have done anything wrong but I need to know what I'm dealing with so that I can sort it out."
