Watch out Ken, Barbie's brought her pals around for a jam session!

The faces may belong to dolls, but the rest of these women are real and they take to the stage tomorrow in Haworth.

Baba Yaga, whose members include Haworth's Sarah MacHenry, is one of four all-female acts appearing at the Parkside Social Club.

They are playing at what Sarah terms "a Big Girl's Blouse of a Gig" featuring a range of styles from jazz to punk.

Baba Yaga is a quartet - occasionally joined by a trumpeter and violinist - that plays "post-punk with a sense of humour".

Most of the members formerly recorded and toured with cult underground band Witchknot.

Another performer is Mrs Pilgrimm, (C) a solo artist who sings and plays jazz-influenced cello.

Her website says she plays with a sensibility and understanding of music that is a fine tonic to the ear. "Oh my, she can rock," it adds.

Gertrude is a five-piece band from London that has toured Europe and America playing its own material.

The women play cello and clarinet alongside rock guitars, giving an original twist to their live performances.

The band is heavily involved in the Frockoff! campaign to give a higher profile to female bands.

Lux Lixbon is a recently-formed four-piece band from Leeds that has just returned from a tour of Ireland.

Admission to the 8pm gig is £4.50, but advance tickets cost £3.50 from the club, or Offshoots on Cavendish Street, Keighley.

The venue on Butt Lane was formerly known as the British Legion Club. Check the bands at www.gertruderock.com and www.hinterhoff.com.

There's no rest for the Spivs as they announce more concerts for the year in Haworth.

Hot on the heels of last weekend's concert by Two Timers is the April 6 arrival of the Fairport Supporters.

The show features Steve Tilston, Bob Fox and Anna Ryder, who have all opened concerts for Fairport Conventions in recent years.

Coming up is acoustic blues singer Emily Druce (May 4), Michael Roach (June 22), Bob Hall (September 21) and Christine Collister (November 30). Phone 01535 642566 for information and tickets.

The gig's on but the recording's off for Don Gaudiosi and his Hush band.

Don will take the stage on May 17 at Victoria Hall to celebrate his 40th birthday with the third Hush live concert.

He and Ian Wilkinson, Andy Sale and Pete Kaberry will play a mix of originals and pop-rock covers.

There will be a guest band plus singing support from Don's brother Tony, local woman Camalina, and former Whipping Post frontwoman Helen Forshaw.

Frank Farkas, who last sang with Don in the early 80s in the band Unit 3, will perform an acoustic Jam number with him.

The concert, which aims to raise thousands of pounds for Airedale breast cancer unit, has been made possible through sponsorship from Professional Forming and Finishing.

The planned spring recording session by Hush - to complete Don's album - has been put back to the end of the year. Other Hush musicians Jake and Jonny Newiss may be joining Don in the studio.

Fatal Joy has recruited a new guitarist and is discussing a recording contract with new Huddersfield label Relight.

The Keighley band is now a three-piece and is still looking for a drummer as it prepares for recording sessions in Bath.

Musician Jason Greenwood says a deal will be signed if both parties get along during Relight's launch party this month.

The new Fatalist is Paul Holmes, who as half of an acoustic duo supported the band last summer at the Victor Wardman pub.

He debuted with Fatal Joy last month, again at VWs, about the same time he was offered a solo contract with Relight.

Anyone with drum sticks should phone 07967 971285.

Scott Donovan says he is also looking for a drummer, this time for the band Brave Radiation.

Both names are a pseudonym based on 90s pop star Jason Donovan and his Neighbours alter ego Scott Robinson.

Why the alias? It's Knights Out's fault, for more than once I've mistakenly called a certain Keighley musician Jason Robinson.

In mitigation this sometimes fatalistic, sometimes joyful chap has invented a new name that might be more memorable than the original.

"Scott" can be contacted on 07786 210960.

Alias plays blues rock and classics at the Korner Bar, Church Green, Keighley, on Thursday, and the New Inn, Bocking, next Friday.

Award-winning entertainer David George performs at Churchill's, the Conservative Club on North Street, Keighley, tonight.

Burnley National Blues Festival returns on Easter weekend, March 29-April 1. Performers include Mike Sanchez, Sista Monica Parker, Larry McCray, Sugarland Slim, Byther Smith, Little George Sueref, Pinetop Perkins and Marcus Malone. Phone 01282 664400.
