Regulars at the Black Bull Inn can enjoy a lunch time tipple and learn all about computers at the same time.

For the tap room at the pub in Sutton-in-Craven, near Skipton, gets turned into a class room every Thursday.

And the demand has been so overwhelming, the organisers are to arrange another ten-week session.

Among the class are father and daughter David Hardaker, 59, from Sutton, and Sharon Hutchinson, 32, from Eastburn.

"I have to ask my 12 year-old daughter how to use the computer so when I saw this class advertised I decided to join. I knew my dad was interested so I asked him to come along as well," said Mrs Hutchinson.

Landlord Chris Suri said: "All the places went straight away and so far the feedback has been really positive."

The students - mostly older people - work on ten lap-top computers under the guidance of North Yorkshire County Council's community education service staff.

It was part of the service's commitment to delivering education programmes to people of all ages, said Derek Blackwell, community tutor for South Craven.

"The pub was the ideal choice for a venue. It is very much the focal point of the village.

"We run most courses at local schools but in this case we wanted to reach out and bring the training facilities directly to those that need them," he said.

And there has been a spin off for Chris - he's been able to push more of his special pensioners' meals.
