West Leeds 2nd XV 20, Keighley 2nd XV 25 - The Crusaders' second team managed to reverse the result of the home fixture, despite being out of action for two weeks.

The Leeds side are one of the best organised teams Keighley have played this season, and top of the second team league.

West Leeds were soon on the score board with a penalty before Keighley launched an all-out attack.

Despite their efforts they could not overcome the solid defence of the Leeds side. Keighley were on top in the scrums and lineouts with Tim Midgley outstanding in the lineout play.

Paul Salmon was causing problems in the loose and Keighley finally breached the defence with Richard Leach rolling off a maul after a lineout to crash over for a try. Leach had one of his better games playing at tight head prop but Grant failed with the conversion attempt.

West Leeds went back in front with a try but they were wayward with the conversion.

Chris Watts who received the ball in his own twenty-two scored the best try of the afternoon. He beat his opposing winger and set off down the left wing, he cleverly fainted to come into mid-field before beating the fullback on the outside.

Duncan Grant added the conversion but missed a penalty just before half time.

The second half started with Keighley still on top and a tenacious break by Martin Uren down the blind side of a scrum made the opening. A deft kick ahead stuck in the mud just before the try line. The covering defence tried to kick the ball into touch but a complete miss-kick gave Watts an easy try.

Grant failed with the kick, but soon made amends when he kicked a penalty for three more points. Leeds were not to be beaten and replied with a try when their stand-off jinked past would be tacklers to score by the posts and converted his own try.

The score put them within three points of Keighley. Again good forward play took Keighley into the attack zone. From a rolling maul 30-yards out Peter Southgate broke loose, with only the full back to beat he took route one - straight through the player - and just managed to reach over for the touch down.

Grant was able to tag on the two extra points and Keighley appeared to be fully in command for the last ten minutes of the game. A lapse in concentration allowed Leeds to score a converted try. This gave the final score a look which did not reflect the dominance of the Keighley team.
