Keighley Amateur Boxing Club earned a hat-trick of victories at their charity event which was staged in association with Bradford and Bingley Rugby Club last weekend.

Luke Howson scored with cleaner shots throughout a lively schoolboy contest against Terry Flanagan from Ancoats ABC of manchester. Howson took the unanimous points decision by a wide margin.

Carl Harper made an impressive debut appearance against John Wainwright of Sheffield ABC. Honours were even until the Keighley boxer stepped up a gear to score with solid jabs and hooks to secure a narrow victory.

The hat-trick was completed by sixteen-year-old John Gunning who has emerged as an outstanding prospect. He is the fourth generation of his family to have boxed in competition as his father, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather have previously figured in the ring.

The 'Young Gun' had a tough assignment against Sheffield's powerfully built Liam Brookes but he weathered an early storm, landing some precision shots. The Keighley boxer had the audience on the edge of their seats and although the final decision was close, Gunning's accuracy proved decisive.

Keighley's only reverse was sustained by young Robbie Spencer who also plays rugby for the Bees.
