An exhibition detailing the site of Calderdale's largest amphibian population will be officially opened tomorrow.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Calderdale, Councillor Chris O'Connor and Mrs Dorothy O'Connor, will open the annual exhibition of the Friends of Cromwell Bottom (FoCB) at 10.30am. The display runs until March 30.

Councillors and other invited guests will be given a brief history of Cromwell Bottom, near Brighouse, and information about the Friends charity. The exhibition is the second to be held by the group and illustrates the vital importance of the site for Calderdale's largest amphibian population.

Other aspects of the site, such as its importance as a resting and breeding area for migratory birds, will also be illustrated.

A special case showing the many species of dragonflies which breed in the pools at Cromwell Bottom will be displayed and will include some of the exuviae (cast skins) found by FoCB dragonfly expert Brian Lucas.

Jill and Brian Lucas are presenting an illustrated talk on Dragonflies and other Wildlife of Cromwell Bottom in Halifax Central Library at 7.15pm on Tuesday, March 26.

Formed in June 1999, the group has more than 80 members.
