Batley Bulldogs 56, Keighley Cougars 4 - The Cougars revival suffered a heavy blow as the Bulldogs gave them a good mauling.

Coach Gary Moorby was left embarrassed as his side capitulated 56-4 against a resurgent Batley side at the weekend.

The Keighley side were hit by a Bulldog backlash as the home side recovered in style from the whipping applied the previous week by Featherstone Rovers.

"I am embarrassed by this performance," said a clearly downbeat Moorby after the defeat.

"After all that we have achieved in the last two weeks it is such a shame to go down like this. It is not just the scoreline, it is the manner of the defeat.

"A lot of silliness crept into our play and there was too much indiscipline in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"The heads were really down at half-time and we did our best to lift them, but it just wasn't happening.

"We capitulated in the second-half and, to be honest, they could have thrown the ball anywhere and scored in the last 20 minutes."

As well is giving away too many penalties at the wrong time, Paul Ashton, the match-winner last week, got himself sin-binned for dissent.

"It is a shame for Ashy to get sin-binned in this way," said Moorby, who decided to start with the stand-off after his recent performances.

"Dissent is a mindless penalty and it is a shame for the lad that this happened. We just lost our way."

Moorby admitted he felt sorry for Craig Stanley, the back loaned from Super League's Leeds Rhinos.

"He did nothing wrong in the game," said Moorby.

"But he didn't get the chance to prove himself. I felt a bit sorry for him making his Cougar debut in a game like this where there was little opportunity for him to do anything, to prove himself."

Moorby will be hoping Stanley gets his chance as the Cougars entertain the NFP's whipping boys Hunslet.

Although the Hawks took Featherstone all the way yesterday, the Keighley side will be hoping to resume their winning streak this Sunday.

"We want Hunslet to suffer the backlash we suffered at Batley," added Moorby.

"There will be no complacency and myself and Paul Moses (the assistant coach) have plenty to discuss with the players ahead of the game. But we will be demanding a better performance and a return to the winning ways of last week.

"After we lost to St Gaudens in the cup, it was a case of one step forward two steps back. Things aren't that bad yet, but we must be careful not to lose the momentum gained in recent weeks."
