NORTH Ribblesdale's remarkable run of bad luck with the weather continued last Saturday when their game against Yorkshire One leaders Hull had to be postponed. At the current rate of progress, the Settle men will be playing in July.

All was well until late morning on Saturday, but then a bout of fierce rain, hail and snow combined over a two-hour period to leave the Grove Park surface unplayable.

The Dalesmen have now only played one home league game since December 1, with matches against Yarnbury, Old Brodleians, West Park Bramhope and Hull all falling foul of the weather.

As a consequence, the last three months have been very much a stop-start affair for the Settle side and it has been impossible to build up any sort of momentum. Hopefully that process will begin tomorrow with the visit of Pontefract to Grove Park.

The team's last two displays at Sheffield Tigers and Beverley have both been highly-commendable and victory over mid-table Pontefract should be achievable.

In fact it would not be impossible for Ribblesdale to make substantial progress up the table in the coming weeks as they have almost a third of their fixtures - seven of 22 - still to play, with six of them at home.
