Two brothers took a trip down memory lane on Monday when they visited Keighley for the first time in 62 years

Clive and Colin Jones, the sons of former Keighley rugby star Wyndham Watkin Jones, left Keighley in 1940 and had not been back since.

The brothers moved to Keighley from Wales, when their father, who was one of the first players to defect from the then amateur game of rugby union, signed to play for the rugby league club in 1931.

Clive, Colin and his wife Rita spent the day in the town, visiting old haunts including the house on West Lane that they had lived in. They were even invited in for a tour by the present owner.

Younger brother Colin, 70, who lives in York, said: "We lived on West Lane until the war, when our father went into the army.

"Then we moved back to Wales and haven't been here since. We never expected to actually go inside our old house."

Clive, 72, who now lives in Plymouth, said: "We went to Highfield School, and we were very disappointed to see that it was being pulled down."

But despite their sadness at the school's demise, the pair thought that, other than a few notable exceptions, little had changed in the town.

Colin said: "Nothing much has changed, apart from the shopping centre and the bus station, and a few of the roads are different.

Clive added: "It's like walking into a time warp.

"Even the cinema, where we saw Snow White when it first came out, is still there."
