Airedale Hospital has been rated one of Britain's top hospitals in a new survey.
The 610-bed hospital, which has an average of 26 doctors and 98 nurses per 100 beds, was ranked in the top 16 hospitals in Britain with eight stars out of a possible ten by a Sunday newspaper.
The Mail on Sunday's Good Hospital Guide, which is based on Department of Health statistics, praises the hospital as being: "A large hospital with a low overall mortality rate. Death rates for emergency hip fracture and stroke admissions are also low.
"It meets Government targets in key areas of heart disease, but not the target for CT scan administration within 48 hours of admission with stroke. In A&E, 100 per cent of patients are dealt with within four hours.
"The hospital has a better than average performance for both inpatient and outpatient waiting times."
The quality index of the hospitals is based on an establishment's death rates, waiting times and compliance with best practice standards, according to Government figures.
