Bradford's famous City Hall carillon will add its notes to the celebrations for the Queen's silver jubilee, although there is still doubt whether the scaffolding around the clock tower will be down in time. Timber frames which support the bells in the clock tower were found to be unsound. They have been repaired by a special treatment by which plastic reinforcing rods were inserted.

While queues waited to release more savings balloons in Bradford today, tags from those already picked up were being delivered from a wide area. Out of 130 in the morning post was one from Aurillac, France, only about 100 miles from the Mediterranean and about 700 miles from Bradford - the longest flight so far. Over 4,400 balloons have been released and about 400 tags have been returned.
