COUGAR players have pledged there will be 'no surrender' against Hunslet on Sunday - after they hoisted the white flag in a spectacular second half collapse at Batley.

After holding the Mount Pleasant side until moments before the half time hooter, they crashed to a 56-4 defeat. Coach Gary Moorby was left stunned by the scale of the defeat.

"If we had been getting beaten like that every week I would just say we are not good enough, but we had a superb performance at Whitehaven and followed up with two wins.

"The lads performed well in the first half - and then totally collapsed.

"At training on Tuesday I made it clear that it just was not good enough. Over half the fans at the game were from Keighley and they had let them down, they had the coaching team down, they had let the directors down, and they had let down their wives and girlfriends who were watching the game.

"But most of all they had let themselves down," Moorby said.

None of the players had their blushes spared as they were made to watch the video of Batley slicing through the Cougar defence to score eight second-half tries.

"To their credit everyone held their hand up and admitted they could do better - a lot better.

"This weekend they are really putting their reputations on the line and have promised they will go out and give everything they've got. I have warned them there will probably be changes to the team," he said.

Danny Ekis, and Leeds Rhinos forward Tommy Gallahger will come into contention.

Bradford Bulls have recalled on-loan signing Richard Moore who has added size to the Keighley side, which came as a further blow to the team.

"Richard has added much needed size and power to our pack and its a real blow to lose him. However, we wish him the very best of luck and maybe he could return at some stage," Moorby said

The coaching blackboard in the home dressing room at Cougar Park has this week been emblazoned with just one word - 'Backlash' - and the players plan to make Hunslet suffer for their humilation last week.

But the south Leeds side came back from 24-4 down to just miss out as Featherstone held out for a 34-28 victory.

Moorby added: "We have two games left before the League programme breaks and the National League Cup kicks in. The games are Hunslet at home and Swinton away, and if we can win both games we will be ideally poised to make a serious challenge for a top nine place when the season starts again in June."
