Derek Tiller has family links with both Chipperfields Circus and the Tiller Girls dance troupe.
But he promises there'll be neither high kicks nor monkey business as he takes up the baton for Haworth Band.
Derek, pictured right, is the amateur brass band's new musical director and plans to insist on disciplined playing along with enjoyment.
Derek comes to Haworth after almost two decades as a playing member of the award-winning Hebden Bridge (Walkley Clogs) Brass Band.
He was born in Pontefract, named after the lion tamer in the circus where his father worked, and moved south at an early age.
He learned several brass instruments and started his band career with Toddington Home Guard Band, later playing with or conducting many bands in the Bedfordshire area.
After moving back to Yorkshire he conducted Sowerby Bridge's Friendly Band and in 1986 moved to the Hebden Bridge Band.
Derek will be leading Haworth Band during its regular Monday evening rehearsals next to the Fleece Inn on Main Street.
The band has several vacancies for players, either to join or play occasionally. It is also starting a learners' class. Phone the secretary on 01535 645984 or drop in to a rehearsal.
