Oakbank students took part in the English Schools cross-country championships last weekend, but found conditions difficult.

Laura Greenham produced the best local performance of the day finishing in 110th place in the senior girls event, which saw almost 400 runners taking part.

The Essex course was relatively flat, but muddy and with over 300 competitors in each race a good start was essential.

Unfortunately the local athletes did not have the luck they needed, but recorded respectable times.

Laura was followed home by her twin sister Kayleigh, who finished in 189th place. Rebecca Long was 202nd in the intermediate girls race and Sam Clegg was 260th in the intermediate boys event.

They had reached the national finals after recording good performances in the Bradford Schools Championships before securing top-eight finishes in the West Yorkshire championships.
