Members of Bradford's only sea angling club are rowing about whether women should be allowed to join their ranks.

The fishy problem has split the young and old at Bradford and District Sea Angling Club.

Social secretary Graham Wilson says women are not knocking down the door to join but he feels the situation needs to be sorted out.

He said: "We are breaking the rules of the national association by not allowing women members. It has to go to a vote."

So on Tuesday, the club's 40 or so members are being invited to troop along to club headquarters - the Goldsborough in Bolton Lane - to cast their votes. Mr Wilson said: "The older members - 55 plus - do not want to allow women members." The social secretary, who also arranges the trips, will vote "yes" for including the fairer sex in their ranks. "I do not see a problem with women members," he said.

"But nobody has brought this to our attention before. We installed a new president recently and he brought it up. We have never had applications from women.

"I think there are three or four who want to join as social members.

"We go to Whitby and the west coast. I wouldn't have thought many women would want to go 40 miles off shore with us to find the wrecks."
