The second Keighley Civic Dinner was being hailed a success this week - with a message from the Lord Mayor of "long may it continue".

The dinner, held to raise funds for the Lord Mayor's appeal which is this year supporting the Macmillan Cancer Relief appeal and The Prince's Trust, was attended by 130 people.

The event was staged - for the first time in around seventy years - by last year's Lord Mayor Cllr Stanley King.

This year's Mayor, Cllr Ghazanfer Khaliq, was determined the dinner would continue in the same format at the Airedale Barn, East Riddlesden Hall. He told guests he was delighted the event had been staged and so many people had been willing to support it once again.

"It is a wonderful occasion and I hope it will continue for many years," he said.

Entertainment for the evening was provided by Mal Webb's Famous New Orleans Jazz Band and the main fund raising was staged by Malcolm Hoddy, editor of the Keighley News and also a member of the appeal committee, through two true or false games and an auction.

The Lord Mayor thanked the management and staff at East Riddlesden Hall, the ladies of Keighley Flower Club for the table arrangements, Prestset of Keighley for printing the tickets and Keighley's Town Crier Michael Walton for his services as Master of Ceremonies.

The amount raised will be announced later.
