A brave mum today told how she defied a gang of carjackers who ambushed her car as she drove her two young children to their grandma's house.

The 29-year-old was driving her X-registered Citroen Xsara Picasso through Bradford in yesterday morning's rush hour when the gang pounced.

With her two daughters, aged two and three, and another three-year-old boy in the back seat, Dawn blasted the horn and locked the doors as the attackers ordered her out of the car.

Today Dawn - who did not want to reveal her full name - told how she feared the attackers would force her from the vehicle and drive off with the children still inside.

The drama began as she drove up Great Horton Road, Bradford, shortly after 9am. A white G-registered Honda Prelude shot out of Laisteridge Lane and stopped in front of her car.

Dawn, of Wibsey, said: "He got out and was shouting and started coming towards me, so I immediately locked all the doors. He said 'get out of your car, I want your car', and at first I thought he was joking. Another man had got out of the car, and hammered on the passenger window."

The man repeated his warning, but Dawn refused to budge.

Dawn said: "I put my hands on the horn and told him I would phone the police".

The men eventually fled back to their car and sped-off down Great Horton Road and were last spotted in Grove Terrace, opposite Bradford College.

The driver was described as an Asian male in his early 20s, 5ft 6ins, of skinny build and scruffy appearance. He wore a hooded top or cap and spoke with a Yorkshire accent.
