People are being invited to 'walk on water' in a new charity event on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal.

Families can take part in a six-mile walk from Saltaire to Bingley, taking in Shipley Glen and the Five Rise Locks, on Sunday, July 14.

The hike, expected to take three hours, is part of a Walk on Water sponsored walks campaign, which aims to raise sponsorship for a new school for blind children in West Africa. It will also highlight the beauty of the country's canal and river network.

Energetic people can take part in one of two SuperChallenges - including a 127-mile hike across the Pennines following the whole route of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal. This will take place over two weekends, July 6 to 7 and July 13 to 14, with participants covering 25 miles a day.

There are prizes for the highest fundraisers, including a trip to West Africa on safari.

For a full list of walks and maps, check out www.walkonwater.info, and to register, call 0845 6024 565 for a pack. It costs £5 for adults, and children are free.
