A schizophrenic awaiting sentence for his part in the Bradford riots has been found hanged at his parents' home, it was revealed today.

At the time of his death, Ishtiaq Azam Bashir had already admitted a charge of affray and so faced a maximum sentence of three years in jail.

A month earlier, the 31-year-old had appeared at Bradford Crown Court where he was told he would have to return to learn his fate.

Releasing him on bail so that a pre-sentence report to be carried out, Judge Stephen Gullick told Mr Bashir: "I shall look at all options in the light of the report."

The court had heard that Mr Bashir, of Batley Road, Heckmondwike, had suffered from the mental illness schizophrenia since 1997.

On April 20, Mr Bashir was found dead at his parents' house in Lyndale Crescent, Heckmondwike. They have since flown his body back to Pakistan to be buried. It is believed that unemployed Mr Bashir leaves a wife and three children.

It is understood that Mr Bashir's arrest came in the early hours of July 8, long after police had returned order to the streets of Manningham following hours of bloody violence.
