Yeadon notched another excellent win in their bid to climb out of the relegation zone.

Their win over fellow strugglers Lightcliffe saw them narrow the gap between themselves and Spen Victoria who could manage only one point from a draw, yo nine points,

Yeadon's new found confidence is paying dividends but they will have to continue to work hard to catch Spen up.

The two clubs meet on August 3 at Yeadon and it does not need saying that this will be a vital match.

Yeadon have only eight games in which to climb the table away from the three relegation spots. Every point is vital now to Craig Thornton and his men but the effort put in in the last few weeks has certainly shown that Yeadon have the stomach for the challenge.

On Saturday fellow strugglers Lightcliffe rolled into town but it was Yeadon who were struggling in the early stages.

They were 11 for three before Scarborians Damon Gormley and Neil Elvidge came together and defiantly clubbed and battered their way to the 200 mark before the next wicket fell.

This pair were forced to work hard for their runs after heavy rain had slowed the outfield. In fact, with neither man built for speed, they showed their desire for victory by scoring an all run four and took a number of quick singles.

This was allied to some superb hitting which dispirited the Lightcliffe fielders to a degree where their work became shoddy.

The partnership was eventually broken when Mubashir Nazir had Gormley caught behind for a superb 81. Elvidge followed soon after for a well constructed 103 but Yeadon wasted their final ten overs with little or no runs being added by the tailend, in fact three of them were out without scoring.

Yeadon finished on 231, a target way beyond Lightcliffe who fell for 112 in reply having no answer to John Roper and Chris Henry, who each picked up four wickets, and spinner Grant Soames who chipped in with two for six.

A good win for Yeadon which will give them further encouragement for the weeks ahead.

Yeadon Seconds recorded a fine 34 runs win at Hartshead Moor on Saturday. They totalled 157 with good knocks from Darren Smith (45) and Richard Machell (22) and then bowled the opposition out for 123. Tony Gilks took four for 16 and David Summerscales bagged three wickets.

Gilliver hits 152

ESHOLT batsman Mark Gilliver compiled his second successive massive score when his side took on Windhill on Saturday. He followed his 135 against Bradford and Bingley with 152 as his side made 271 for seven. Windhill finished on 203for eight with 11 overs to play when rain ended the game.
