HALL Park are the surprise Waddilove Cup finalists after beating Division A side Bilton in Sunday's semi-final. They will face Guiseley who must be favourites after reaching their fourth successive final.

The last time Hall Park were in the final was 1997 when they defeated Follifoot at Ilkley. Only three members of that side remain in Park's first team - Peter Kempton, Robert Murphy and Martin Culley.

Park's new faces include pace bowler Robert Hodson whose experience in the Bradford League has been invaluable as Park have forced their way to the final and also pole position for promotion from Division B.

He bagged tjree for 31 off his nine overs removing the first three in Bilton's much vaunted batting line up. M Cowell did manage to make 61 but all the Park bowlers bowled tidily to turn the screw and have their opponents dismissed for 128. Peter Weedon produced a vital three for 12 off 8.2 overs after Robert Murphy and J Haigh had each bagged two wickets.

Despite losing openers Simpson and Wilson cheaply Hall Park got back on track with a good knock of 33 from Michael Elliott. It was no easy ride for Park with A Burton taking three for 33, S Taylor bowling a miserly nine over spell for 1-12 and L Jarvis and Steve Lawrence each bagging two wickets. A well timed victory was gained by a two wicket margin with just two balls to spare.

Cup finals are old hat to Guiseley now and even their teenage stars Chris Wain and Chris Thompson have seen it all before in first and second team finals.

Skipper Steve Thompson is heading for his sixth final after his side proved far too strong for Pool on Sunday. With some excellent fielding to back up their good bowling Guiseley had Pool all out for 119, Mark Ross taking two for two, Chris Thompson (2-26), Chris Wain (2-18) and Andrew Paley (1-11) while Peter Graham bowled a tidy nine over spell for just 13 runs. Glen Taylor then led Guiseley to an eight wickets win with an unbeaten 41 after Mark Ross had made 36.

The final will be at Rawdon on Sunday, August 11.

The Birtwhistle Cup final at Calverley on Sunday, August 4, will be between Bilton and North Leeds.

Bilton disposed of Burley who could not match the run rate despite the efforts of Mark Dearden (45), Peter Sumner (38), Marcus McLeod (35 no) and Martin Robinson (22). Bilton had made 230 with half-centuries from C Dawson and N Grainger.

In the other semi-final North Leeds disposed of Follifoot who set a target of 188 for nine and could only watch as North Leeds went past it with four overs to spare. Opener S Hussain set the tone with a knock of 62 which was followed by good efforts from M Hall (35) and Guy Hollis (42).
