The best weather, the best cricket.

Bathed in glorious sunshine, Bradford League Division One players picked the hottest cricketing day of the year to produce some dramatic and extraordinary results.

The top three sides managed just two points between them, two of the bottom clubs picked up sensational scores and one match even finished in a tie.

Cleckheaton pulled off the biggest shock, picking up four points from title challengers Pudsey St Lawrence.

Despite an unbeaten 77 from Mark Gill, pictured, the relegation-strugglers looked to have built too small a score against a visiting team renowned for their depth of batting.

But the 181 for nine, which included a flurry of late sixes, proved to be enough to take an unexpected four points in the home side's desperate bid for survival.

Despite a captain's innings from Iain Priestley, St Lawrence could manage just 138 for seven in reply, picking up the single point.

Faisal Irfan was the pick of the bowlers, with yet another impressive performance from the big man netting him five for 42.

Treble-title chasers Pudsey Congs came within four runs of maximum points, but had to settle with a single one in a run-fest at the Britannia Ground.

Batting first, Hanging Heaton's Steve Foster hit an impressive unbeaten 98 in a massive 276 for five.

A frustrated Andy Bethel managed 99 before being stumped by Ishmail Dawood off Ajit Bhoite and Naveed Rana-ul-Hassan managed a 93.

But it was not to be enough with Congs falling just short with two wickets remaining.

And with the big two struggling, it should have been Undercliffe's day to make an assault on the top.

However, bottom-of-the-table Lightcliffe decided to gatecrash the party - and in some style too.

At 99 for five, up stepped Mubashir Nazir and John Wilson for a partnership that would change the game.

Their unbeaten 134 for the sixth wicket took the home side to 230 for five, setting the third-placed side a tough target.

And it proved much too tough, with Alex Stead taking six for 24 in his 15 overs as the visitors were reduced to 168 all out despite a John Sadler 63.

And if all that wasn't exciting enough, there was also the division's first tie of the season.

Woodlands set the game up nicely with a Nick Rushworth 86 and a Murphy Walwyn 66 helping the visitors to 224 for seven.

But the fun really started in the sun-soaked second innings.

With two balls of the Spen innings to go, the home side were just a couple shy of a win.

Rao Anjum then ran out skipper Steve Bethel leaving Ian Wood facing the last ball needing both runs for victory.

He got the one but was run out trying for a second so the game was tied, three points apiece.

Meanwhile, another big Damon Gormley knock couldn't save Yeadon who were beaten by Baildon and an unbeaten 72 from Paul Spragg.

And a Jonathan Proud 115 could only earn East Bierley four points at Farsley, who played out a bore draw.

They batted out the innings with two wickets left, but finished 137 runs behind Bierley.

An eventful day of cricket all round.
