There will be a bumper football derby in Bradford tonight after Bradford City creditors accepted the deal to save the club from ruin.

Everyone connected with the club faced an anxious wait to see whether there would be a club to take to the field this evening for a friendly with Bradford Park Avenue.

But as the CVA was accepted, Nicky Law was able to send out his first team against the non-leaguers in what could be a festival of celebration for everyone connected with the club.

Law, clearly feeling the pressure of his nightmare week in management, said before today's nerve-jangling meeting at the club: "There is nothing we can do until we hear the news from the meeting. If we hear something by kick-off, I'll be sending out my first team against Avenue for a much-needed run out.

"If there is no news, or bad news, then there will be no match for us to play in and we could all be out of work by Friday."

With the Wolves fixture looming just ten days away, Law's men are desperate for game time ahead of the start of their Division One campaign.

"I would have liked to play the first choice team against Hull on Tuesday but that simply was not possible," said Law.

"But obviously I had to put out a scratch side so I will have to play my senior players tonight and then again on Saturday and then again on Monday for the Middlesbrough game.

"Of course our pre-season has been affected and the players will need to get in some serious match practice for the start of the season."

Law has faced a difficult six weeks and is desperate to get his plans for the season into place.

He has been largely impressed with his trialists and has indicated that he might be keen to sign up a number of them if the restrictions of administration are lifted.

And if the club get through today's crunch talks then Bantam fans are expected to turn out in force for the friendly at Horsfall Stadium.

It is normally a youth team that is sent to Avenue for the annual Tom Banks Memorial Trophy, but in these extenuating circumstances it could prove to be a full-strength side that takes to the field.

Avenue manager Trevor Storton admitted today that last night's friendly against Doncaster Rovers - which Avenue lost 4-0 - was hastily arranged with the fear of a City no-show in

mind.

But that doesn't mean that he is not delighted at the potential strength of tonight's opposition.

"Of course I hope they get through today's meeting okay," said Storton.

"And we would be over the moon to welcome their first team here. It would be a really good run-out for us and some really testing opposition, probably the strongest we would have faced pre-season.

"I am sure that if things go to plan we can expect a very big crowd, possibly over a thousand and it would be a great occasion."

He said that the Bradford City situation had become "ridiculous" and that he thought there was a groundswell of frustration against the Division One club who pulled out of a friendly at Telford recently and then fielded just a scratch side at Hull on Tuesday night.
