Jackie Carpenter, the Lady Captain, welcomed all visiting friends from other clubs and she thanked those who had helped to organise the successful event.

A Wilson was again a winner on the Captain's Prize Day for Ladies played in dry but difficult gusty conditions. She achieved 33 points off 7/8 handicap. C Lambert (32) and L Yeadon (31) were runners-up. P Lee had the longest drive on the third hole and K Houghton won the nearest pin prize. Mrs Pat Phillips, the wife of the captain, provided a delicious and much appreciated afternoon tea for all.

The Lady Captain was in the winning team playing in the Bradford and District Union of Golf Clubs Officials' Day at Headley Golf Club. The team scored 85 points and at the same event John Watts, a Ben Rhydding member, scored a hole in one.

Otley GOLF CLUB: Ladies' President, Mrs Jennie Quinn's President's Day was held in inclement (some might say appalling) weather but this failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the 96 players who competed.

In the evening 112 members and friends enjoyed an excellent dinner and prize presentation.

Winners were: Ladies' President's Prize - P Clarke, 38 points. First Division - A Smithies, 37 on back six; runner-up - S Ridyard, 37. Second Division - S Whittington, 37; runner-up - E Walsh, 35. Third Division - L Stewart, 33; runner-up - A Lilleyman, 30. Nine-hole Competition - J Wood.

By comparison, on Saturday the men played for the St Dunstan's Cup in Mediterranean conditions. The superb weather was matched by the course and some excellent scoring testified to some wonderful golfing conditions. The St Duncan's Cup is an annual event and the proceeds generated from the day's competition fees will this year go to the English Blind Golf Association.

Ten players broke the CSS with the winner, Tim Lee 74-8-66, looking forward to Prize Presentation Evening in the autumn.

HARROGATE AND DISTRICT: With the distinct lack of summer weather 69 competitors, including two girls, competed for the Junior Championship title at Knaresborough Golf Club and with also the three best gross scores from each club added together for the winners of the Bedale Trophy.

Pannal Golf Club again showed its ability to provide the union with some talented golfers. Not only did the individual winner come from Pannal but with two scores of gross 72 plus an 84 the Bedale Trophy also goes to Pannal.

With a number of Union first team players competing some good scores were anticipated. At the end of the day it was down to the two Pannal juniors, Tom Curtis (four) and Martin Padgett (five) a clear six shots ahead of the field on 72. The result went in favour of Tom Curtis with Martin Padgett taking the prize for best gross in the 16 to 18-year-old group.

Lizzie Brand, from Ilkley, took the gross prize with a score of 81 while the boys' best net score for the 0 to 12 handicap went to Otley's Andrew Driver 73-6-67.
