BRADFORD League clubs have voted to reduce the number of teams being relegated from Division One this season to just one.

A proposal by Farsley achieved a two thirds majority, 22 votes to 11, at last Thursday's extraordinary general meeting.

Now Yeadon officials are hoping that they can take advantage of the rule change and secure their top flight future for another season.

Yeadon are currently 11th with 29 points from 18 games - just three more than bottom team Lightcliffe.

Yeadon cricket chairman Les Wood said: "It is up to us to cash in on the rule change. This is something I have wanted to see since the start of the summer.

"Twelve teams in Division One and 17 in Division Two was unworkable. By relegating one team and promoting three we get leagues of 14 and 15 respectively which is much better.

"Irrespective of our current plight, I believe this rule was needed because there was too little cricket in Division One from which the clubs could generate income and three teams going down out of 12 was too high a number."

Even though the door to safety has been nudged open, Yeadon know that their last four matches appear far tougher on paper than the programme facing rivals Lightcliffe.

Yeadon's remaining games are Hanging Heaton (home),, Pudsey St Lawrence (away), East Bierley (home) and Woodlands (away).

Securing valuable points from those will not be easy. Lightcliffe's last four fixtures see them play Cleckheaton (away), Pudsey Congs (home), Farsley (away) and Spen Victoria at home.

Wood added: "We have our destiny in our own hands. The matches may appear tricky but the players have been responding well in recent weeks. We are determined to survive."
