Tom Kearney will have a scan today amid fears City's young midfielder could be out for the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old hobbled off during Saturday's 0-0 draw with Grimsby as the club's injury-jinx claimed yet another victim.

Initial reports suggested Kearney may have damaged his cruciate ligaments - a devastating blow on Nicky Law's wafer-thin playing resources.

Law admitted: "If it is the cruciate it could be a nine-month job which is an absolute nightmare. I'm very disappointed for Tom because he's become a big part of the set-up here.

"We're in the process of trying to sort him out a new contract. But he hasn't got to worry about that, it's just important for him to get himself right."

With Lewis Emanuel going under the knife for a minor knee operation on Friday, City are again being put through the mill with injuries.

Welsh international Paul Evans said: "You could see Tom was in agony. We're all just hoping the news from the specialist isn't as bad as it sounds.

"The lads were saying that's just our luck with Jamie Lawrence and David Wetherall already injured and Andy Gray having to play with a broken hand. You don't expect that many injuries to come at the same time."

Wetherall could be back in contention for tonight's tough clash with Ipswich at Portman Road, especially with Robert Molenaar struggling with a groin strain.

City are still without a win after four matches and have managed only two goals.

Law added: "It's frustrating for everybody and you do wonder where our next goal is going to come from."
