City will approach their Worthington Cup date with Wrexham as seriously as any league game.

The Bantams face the Welsh club on Tuesday in the opening round of a competition that is treated with disdain by a growing number of clubs.

Jim Jefferies last season used the Worthington Cup as a run-out for second-string players.

But Nicky Law intends to field a full-strength side at the Racecourse Ground with City intent on enjoying a decent run.

Law said: "We have to take it seriously. For a club that's in our financial plight we've got to do something in the cup.

"We're not in a position where we can rest the lads and put four or five kids in.

"Having said that, I don't think we've got four or five who are ready and we need to progress to the second round.

"The club needs all the money-making possibilities it can get."

Law is hoping that on-loan striker Michael Proctor will be allowed to play against the Third Division club. He has spoken to Sunderland boss Peter Reid about extending Proctor's stay after the 21-year-old hit goals in both of his starts.

The City boss - who has six players out injured - also aims to have another temporary midfielder in place before next Saturday's trip to Walsall. He is waiting for an answer from a Premiership club.
