Police have failed to unearth clues in Keighley about the whereabouts of a Bradford man last seen alive two years ago.

A team of officers and a special sniffer dog spent Tuesday scouring the overgrown area near Cavendish Court car park, off Lawkholme Lane, in the hunt for 42-year-old Alan Crabtree, of Tong Street, Bradford.

Mr Crabtree, an alcoholic, was last seen on September 13, 2000, when he had been visiting friends in nearby Alice Street, Keighley.

Det Insp Chris Binns, of Bradford police, said: "Unfortunately, we found nothing relating to Mr Crabtree.

"But our searches in Keighley are not yet over and we have another two locations to look at."

He said officers believed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

Mr Crabtree's mother, who lives in Queensbury, and his brother, from Calverley, were anxious to know what had become of him.

"When Mr Crabtree left his friends he was pointed in the direction of Keighley Railway Station, between Lawkholme Lane and Sainsbury's supermarket. He has never been seen since," said Det Insp Binns.

The file was being re-visited again after a police officer with special search skills was brought in.

"When Mr Crabtree disappeared we initially didn't focus on this area. It is an overgrown area in the middle of Keighley. People don't realise how big it is.

"We have had to use a strimmer to remove brambles and undergrowth and have used a dog which is specially trained for these circumstances," he added.

Mr Crabtree was not a well man and had been a regular visitor to his doctor, but since his disappearance he had made no visits.
