A STAR-STUDDED line-up topped the bill at a fundraising event in Barnoldswick on Wednesday

The third annual Stars in Barlick show was a sell-out success and raised £1,200 for local good causes.

Staged at the town's Conservative Club, the event provides a chance to see some of the town's retailers as you've never seen them before, performing as well-known stars from the world of music.

Taking top honours this year were Brenda Gifford, Gillian Langton, Jane Dickinson and Jackie Christie, from The Fruit Bowl, who performed Whispering Grass from It Ain't Half Hot Mum.

"We had an excellent night," said Brenda. "We went into it to raise some money and just wanted to enjoy it. We never thought we would win."

In second place was Barnoldswick's HSBC bank manager Frank Newby, who sang Frank Sinatra's You Make Me Feel So Young.

"It was an excellent night and a good community occasion," he said. "It was all in a good cause."

Taking third spot was Rachel Livesey from Dream Rockers Records, who took to the stage as Geri Helliwell.

Stephen Demaine, chairman of Barnoldswick Chamber of Trade, which organised the event, said: "It was great fun. The judges found it very hard to pick the winners."

There were nine competitors in all, including Stephen and his wife Heather, from Budgetique. And there was further entertainment from local tap dancing group The Super Troupers and singer Jason Nichol.

Money raised on the night will be donated to local good causes, including £250 each to two local youngsters who are suffering from leaukaemia.

"Everyone had a really good time," added Stephen. "It is a sell out every year and we have to turn hundreds away.".
