ATHLETE Jo Prowse won a bronze medal in the recent World Masters Mountain Running Championships.

Jo, who is Patient Support Manager for Airedale Community Health Council, put in a valiant run during the championships at Innsbruck, Austria to pick up the third place for England.

The run was a gruelling climb up the 2,248m high Mount Patscherkofel.

Jo, who is 48 and has four children, was involved in a battle with local runner Anita Vogelsburger of Austria on a dense forest stretch nearly 6000ft up the mountain.

The Keighley & Craven Athletics Club runner fought off her rival to remain ahead at the top.

She finished just 46 seconds behind the gold medallist Anni Frotschnig, also from Austria and 30 seconds behind German Beck Edelfraud.

Jo was one of only three members of the 33 strong England squad who won medals. The others were Steve Oldfield who took silver in the Vet 45 sections and Jaqui Hargreaves won bronze in the Vet 35 section.
