A 16-year-old schoolboy's call to the Tories to "roll back the frontiers of the State" set the Conservative Party conference alight at Blackpool today. He was rewarded with cheers from Margaret Thatcher and a standing ovation. William Hague, from Rother Valley, said the Conservatives had very little support from first-time voters in the last election, although they shared Tory hopes and aspirations.

Over 60 past and present choristers filled the chancel at the twenty-third annual choir reunion at St. Margaret's Church, Frizinghall, Bradford. Many of them wore the new scarlet cassocks which have been made from cloth given by a church member. The service was conducted by the Vicar (the Rev. A. P.Plumley) and the sermon was preached by Father Godfrey Pawson of the Community of the Resurrection, Mirfield.
