A company which believes it is only as good as the product it supplies is making waves in the recruitment industry.

And, of course, when you are talking about recruitment, the product can only be one thing - people.

Piccadilly Workforce Ltd, which was established in 1987, specialises in the supply of both industrial and commercial workers.

Whether a student is looking for a weekend position or a director is looking for a new challenge, Piccadilly says it has the experience to manage the situation.

Set up by Stephen Ettenfield and Matthew Martindale, who between them have 17 years of experience in the recruitment industry, the company has gone from strength to strength.

And, as the needs of clients and the recruitment sector changes, so does the firm. Over the past 15 years Piccadilly has changed and developed around its workforce, client needs and legislation.

The recruitment consultancy, which has it head office on Eldon Place, Manningham Lane, has three other offices, in Leeds, Wakefield and Northwich.

With a turnover of £6 million, the firm, which has always been based at the same site, has extensive experience in recruiting staff.

From packers to production managers, Piccadilly prides itself on ensuring it gets its clients the right individuals for the job.

Areas the firm has expertise in recruiting staff in include: warehouse operatives, self assemblers, production workers, shop floor supervisors, order pickers and even fork lift truck drivers.

To make sure the staff it finds are up to the job Piccadilly, which currently has 30 employees of its own, even provides full food hygiene awareness and health and safety courses.

The courses are all provided in-house at Piccadilly's own training centre.

Each member of staff is strictly monitored on the induction sessions Piccadilly provides and at any time a client wishes they can join in or monitor the sessions for extra confidence.

Piccadilly's induction rooms hold up to 25 people and it says it can perform up to five induction sessions per week.

At the end of each course the firm tests each candidates to ensure they have reached the required standard for the clients needs.

Candidates can be tested on areas such as physical and mental evaluation, call centre training, personal ability, alpha numeric written tests, basic hygiene awareness and health and safety.

Clients of the firm range from local companies to major high street names.

The ethos behind the firm has helped it become the success story it is today.

Piccadilly Workforce believes the staff it employs are not just numbers or people who cannot get a better job.

It believes they are the hub of modern industry.

Darren Grayshon, 29, area sales manager for the firm, said: "It is true to say that any company is as only as good as the staff it employs.

"That's why Piccadilly Workforce does pay higher rates of pay than its competitors, we do pay four weeks holiday pay and many of our clients offer other benefits."

Piccadilly also provides a one-to-one, face-to-face registration, interview and testing.

This, says the firm, allows it to understand the candidate's needs, and also helps it build a good relationship between all the parties involved.

The company uses informal interviewing techniques, which it says has two benefits.

Firstly, it allows the firm to view the candidate as an actual person and not a job interview model. Secondly, it allows the business to go further in depth into the applicant's previous working and sometimes personal history.

Darren added: "This can and has risen a few eyebrows, but it means the choice of staff we put forward for further interviews is minimised, and means the client only receives CVs from staff actually wishing to work, with the qualifications and experience background the client needs.

The firm prides itself on the fact that it delivers what the client really wants, and says it makes sure it remembers that it works for the client to ensure great service.

With more and more firms turning to agencies for recruitment, which can be costly and time consuming for firms to do alone, Piccadilly knows it must ensure it delivers the right individual to the right firm every time.

To make sure this happens Piccadilly also trains staff in computer skills when necessary.

Darren explained: "Our training programs are not just easy to understand, they are light hearted, with a serious edge.

"This method has been perfected over the last five years by treating our potential applicants as people, rather than numbers or just 'temps'.

Computer training includes: Microsoft Word, Excel, Office and Access, as well as Lotus Notes. It can also train staff in shorthand, speed typing, data entry, call centre monitoring, and letter dictation.

Darren said: "The firm is so successful because we are honest, we do what it says on the tin, and we are very well respected.

"We hope to make more steady progress in the future."
