Those jubilee union Jack socks got another airing when the Lord Mayor of Bradford, coun. Paul Hockney, hoisted his trouser legs to reveal the red, white and blue to 50 schoolchildren. The children had been invited to the City Hall with their mums and dads to hand over the money they had raised for the Lord Mayor's appeal for the Queen's Silver Jubilee fund. Money had been raised in street jumble sales and other events by the children.

A car of completely new design incorporating a large bowed one piece windscreen and special thief-proof non-slam door locks is announced today by the Nuffield Organisation. It is to be known as the Wolseley four-forty-four. Selling at a list price of £640, plus £357 1s. 1d. purchase tax, the new model has many other novel features including fresh air ventilating, heating and demisting equipment and a specially designed anti-thief petrol tank lock.
