Detectives hunting two gunmen who ambushed a man in a Bradford street appealed for information about a car they escaped in.

The attackers, both armed with handguns, shot the 42-year-old man in each leg as he got out of his own vehicle in Hustler Street, Undercliffe.

Teams of police officers carried out door-to-door inquiries around the area following the incident, which occurred at about 9pm on Sunday.

Officers conceded they currently have no motive for the shooting and could not say if it was a 'punishment-style' attack.

Detective Inspector George Marshall, who is leading the investigation, said: "Our early inquiries have established that a white Vauxhall Cavalier, or a similar vehicle, was seen driving at speed away from the scene moments afterwards."

He said that the victim, who is unemployed, was receiving medical treatment for gunshot wounds to each leg, both bullets hitting him in the thighs.

It is thought the man was also beaten over the head.

"The victim has said he has no idea why he would be targeted in this way," said Det Insp Marshall.

"At the moment we are trying to establish exactly why this has happened and would appeal for anyone with information about the attack, or about the car which was seen driving away, to contact us immediately."

Both of the attackers were described as young Asian men.

Anyone with information should contact Bradford North CID (01274) 376259.
