The Champion House Support Group has praised supporters who flocked to the Mechanics Institute in Calverley to support a disabled home.

More than 150 people watched the musical extravaganza performed by youngsters Sophie and Bethany Wysoczanski and Amy Walsh. Guest soloist Emma Smith, of Farsley, had travelled from Scotland to perform. She is studying for a masters degree in singing at Glasgow's Scottish Academy.

David Williams of the support group said: "The Mechanics Institute has never been so full. I was absolutely gobsmacked. It was a tremendous success so we must thank everyone who participated."

Donations of meal vouchers from the three village pubs helped boost the fundraising which totalled £500 by the end of the night. A spokesman at Champion House in Clara Drive said: "The events and money raised by the Champions House Support Group is really invaluable. It will improve the lives of our disabled residents by providing specialist equipment."
