Two robbers snatched a cash bag from a woman as she made a deposit at a Bradford Post Office.

Police today appealed for witnesses to the attack which occurred at the Harrogate Road branch in Greengates at about 10am yesterday.

The woman was paying in takings from her own business when two men ran in, demanded cash and grabbed a bag from her. Most of the money had already been safely handed over behind the counter.

The men ran out and jumped into a stolen Volvo V70 estate which was later found abandoned in Apperley Bridge. Police confirmed the vehicle, stolen during a burglary in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, was being examined by forensic experts.

A spokesman said: "The victim was not physically hurt but was badly shaken. We would urge anyone who has any information to speak to us."

The woman, in her 70s, needed hospital treatment after the ordeal outside a elderly persons' complex in Heaton.

Police said the attack occurred at about 3pm on Saturday off Haworth Road as the woman was unloading shopping outside her home. Two men pulled up in a milk delivery vehicle - a silver Mazda - which had been stolen from Wilsden.

A police spokesman said: "They engaged her in conversation before grabbing one of her shopping bags.

"She tried to stop them by grabbing hold of the vehicle door while it was moving off, in the process being dragged along some 20 yards before falling off."

The thieves escaped with just a bag of shopping. The driver was white, 27 years old, 5ft 4ins tall and of average build. He had a local accent and short, straight, strawberry blond hair. He also walked with a limp. The passenger was white, 32 years old, 5ft 2ins tall and thin. He also spoke with a local accent.
