Bradford's anti-Drugs police squad seized £50,000 of heroin as officers searched two homes and a number of vehicles in the Barkerend area.

After yesterday's co-ordinated swoop in Cockcroft Grove, detectives said the haul would have had a "devastating impact" on the city's streets.

It was one of the Bradford District Drugs Team's biggest successes since it was formed in July.

The unit was called into action after uniformed officers investigated another incident in the street earlier in the day.

The raid led to the team uncovering £50,000 of heroin and two kilos of cannabis.

It was the latest operation carried out under the force's initiative, CRACKDOWN in Bradford - A Community Against Drugs.

A 29-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, both from Barkerend, were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

They were being questioned at Bradford Central police station today.

Detective Sergeant Patrick O'Neill said: "These large amounts of Class A and B drugs were clearly destined for the streets of Bradford.

"In terms of street deals, this amount would have had a devastating impact on drug abuse across the district.

"Through diligent enquiries, the drugs team have closed down a major drug dealing network.

"We will continue to disrupt local drugs markets."
