Boxer Bobby Vanzie was locked in team talks today to discuss what went wrong in his WBO warm-up.

Bradford's British lightweight champion escaped with a single point win from a routine eight-rounder against Russian Andrei Devyataykin at York Hall, Bethnall Green.

It was hardly the ideal preparation for the WBO eliminator planned for next month against Aldo Rios of Argentina.

Vanzie said: "We'll look at the video and see what areas need to be improved on.

"Unfortunately the two fights I've had since I changed promoters and moved to Frank Warren have been poor.

"But I am a big-occasion fighter. The more the hype, the bigger the prize then the better I perform.

"That's why I've got no worries about taking on Rios because I know I can perform at a much higher level than on Saturday."

Junior Witter, who is chasing the light-welter version of the WBO belt, dusts off the cobwebs on Saturday with an undercard fight in Scotland.

Witter is booked for an eight-rounder on the Scott Harrison bill in Glasgow although an opponent is still to be confirmed. South Africa's Lucky Sambo has pulled out.

Witter, who has stopped his last eight, said: "I'm fit and strong and up for a fight against anybody. I've only had five rounds this year and I don't intend to hang around this time either."
