Odsal Sedbergh showed that they are the amateur Rugby League team to beat in this years Tetley's Yorkshire Cup when they posted a crushing 61-10 win in the third round against Myton Warriors at Odsal Rec.

Sedbergh elected to play uphill in the first half and trailed 8-1 after 20 minutes with only a Darren Collins drop goal to show for their labours.

A purple patch followed with tries from loose-forward Bob Chapman, wingman Simon Knowles and lively hooker Justin Benn, all converted by player-coach Collins enabling them to change ends 19-10 up.

The second half belonged to stand-off Gavin Buckley who crossed for a hat-trick and there were two long-range specials from speedy centre Steve Brown.

Full back Johnny Alderson and skilful prop forward Luke Sellers also breached the Hull side's line which, together with four more Collins goals and three kicks from substitute Shaun Flynn, completed the rout.

Queensbury had a relatively easy passage 30-0 at Keighley Town. Forwards Andy Senior and Matt Galtress both crossed the line before the break, which together with two Paul Drake conversions gave them a 12-0 lead.

Man-of-the-match Senior was soon over for his second on the restart quickly followed with a fine effort from Liam Holmes.

Centre Trevor Stead then brought the crowd to its feet with a spectacular 80-metre belter of a try, and with Drake maintaining his spot-on kicking Bury were home and dry.

Veteran Kiwi hooker Dave Lewis ran hard for the Town cause and at 46 years of age showed that he is still able to compete at the highest amateur level.

Also impressive in a gutsy Town defensive stint were Chris Scaife, Chris Ellison and Quentin Smeed.

West Bowling A also made sure of a place in the hat by seeing off Normanton Knights A 40-20 at Bankfoot.

Second row forward Richey 'Chubby' Annetts scored two vital second half tries at crucial times, and he was joined on the scoreboard by loose forward Bob Benn, wingman Ady Priestley, centre Chris Jesson, stand-off Paul Priestley and forward Darren Holdsworth. Scrum-half Domenic Brambani kicked six conversions.

Silsden Park Rangers also put in a brave performance against Cutsyke from the Yorkshire Premier Division. The Castleford side were a real old school outfit, packed with veteran forwards. They really did threaten to overrun Silsden early on, but eventually had to settle for a 14-8 victory.

The visitors took a 6-0 lead into the break but it was Silsden who came out best for the second half. Matthew Bowness went over from acting half and his elder brother Andy levelled with a conversion.

However two late missed tackles allowed Cutsyke the space they needed to run in a couple of second half tries and all Silsden could manage was a Bowness penalty.

Birkenshaw are top of the Pennine Premier Division following their 20-0 success against St Joseph's under the Fartown floodlights.

The opening 40 minutes was a nerve- jangling slog with only a Matt Gowland goal giving Birky a 2-0 advantage. They opened up in style, however, and sparkling rugby was rewarded with tries to Morton Robinson, Richard Cousen and Richard Ignatiuk, Gowland converting all three.

Victoria Rangers keep their unbeaten Division One record following the 36-16 home win over Emley Moor.

The Vic's supremacy was never in doubt with cheeky scum-half Jason Pounder and play-making loose forward Mick Sigston each posting a brace.

Centre Andy Backo, forward Lee Speight and Jason Jubb with a try and four goals completed the tally.

Clayton's woeful bad luck continued when they lost two players injured with the score just 10-8 against them at home to unbeaten Halifax Irish.

By the time they had reorganised the troops the Irish had scored a further 18 points but Paul Gill's boys rallied strongly to have the last say with the final two touchdowns. Clayton's tries came from Richard Wood, Craig Pickthall, Ian Jackson and Damien Merrick.

First team call-ups saw a depleted Queensbury A scrape home 22-20 against Calder Valley in Division Two. Lack of a goal kicker nearly caused their downfall with only one conversion from five tries. Martin Potts (two), Chris Cannon (two) and debutant Damien Wood crossed for Bury. Division Four Wyke slipped back into old bad tackling habits at Spotland and paid the price, losing 39-6. Prop Craig Scott scored a late consolation try with Andy Padgett adding the extras.

Thornton's veteran player-coach Gary Naylor posted a hat-trick against Clayton A in their Division Six 36-16 success whilst Wyke A lost 64-8 at Baliff Bridge. Neil Clavin and Steve Orme claimed their only points.
