Nicky Law is now being touted as a possible successor to Terry Yorath at Sheffield Wednesday.

Less than a week after the Hull City rumours were flying about, Law is once again back in the spotlight.

Yorath's shaky position was under discussion at a Hillsborough board meeting this afternoon after winning only one of 13 league games this season.

Yorath could be given one last chance to turn it round when the third-from-bottom Owls host City on Saturday. Sources in south Yorkshire say Law, who will be in the opposing dug-out, has been tipped as a candidate to take over.

Rotherham's Ronnie Moore was believed to be Wednesday's first choice but has hinted he would rather look elsewhere.

Like City, Wednesday have money troubles with debts spiralling to a reported £23m. But they still attract the crowds and average 22,005 from their first six home games.

Law said: "People will probably put two and two together and I can't do anything about that.

"Sheffield Wednesday have got some decent players like Shefki Kuqi, Simon Donnelly and Leigh Bromby but for some reason they haven't really performed."

Law's contract is due to run out at the end of next season but City, who admit the constant speculation is "flattering but unsettling", are not in a position to silence the rumours by offering to extend it.

Wednesday know all about Law's achievements on their doorstep at Chesterfield and his ability to operate on a shoe-string budget since City went into administration. He would also come relatively cheap which would prove a big attraction.

Yorath, who was City's boss from February 1989 to March 1990 and later briefly number two to Paul Jewell, got the Wednesday job full-time 11 months ago.

He is their sixth manager in seven years and is widely viewed as the next casualty of the sacking season.

Yorath said: "It's business as usual. I've got to go into work and show the players I'm not nervous although inside I might feel completely different.

"I had people ringing me up on Sunday to ask more or less if I still had a job. It's not nice but you have to answer that.

"I've got to remain strong and keep working to prepare a team to beat Bradford."

Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Ipswich was Wednesday's fourth in a row.
