There was bitter disappointment as the last two local sides crashed out of the quarter-finals of the Tetley's Yorkshire Cup.

Queensbury's 16-4 downfall at Cutsyke came as a result of two disallowed tries, a pitch ankle deep in mud and the absence of influential scrum half Carl Smith through injury.

Bury were over twice in the opening minutes but centre Gareth Hobson was recalled for a forward pass and prop Craig Richards was judged to have failed to ground the ball properly from his fine effort.

Cutsyke rubbed salt in the wound with a converted try to lead 6-0 at the break.

Full back Steve Eyles gave them hope when he crossed but Bury could not make the required headway as conditions deteriorated.

West Bowling A lost 28-12 at Lindley Swifts in a match dominated by two huge packs.

The Huddersfield side used their infamous slope to full advantage to grind their way into the semi-finals.

Tony Green and Jimmy Dewhirst scored tries for Bowling and Jason Woolham kicked two goals.

Birkenshaw went top of the Premier Division after their 35-10 home win over Park Amateurs.

Centre Johnny Turpin scored a hat-trick and kicked two conversions. Owen Buckley, James Ignaciuk and Andy Hirst also crossed. Hirst kicked three further goals and Dickie Rhodes dropped a goal.

Division One pacesetters Victoria Rangers had a comfortable 16-10 success at Rotherham.

Wingman Kieran McDermott and hooker Ray Greenwood crossed for first-half tries which were both converted by prop Tim Hunt.

Lively scrum half Jason Pounder put the match beyond any doubt when he scampered under the posts and Jason Jubb easily added the extras.

Clayton looked to be on the way to a welcome away win at Brighouse Rangers when they led 5-4 on the hour thanks to two penalties and a drop goal from outstanding forward Mark Schofield. But a mad ten-minute spell saw them concede three quick tries which put paid to their chances. Adam Bairstow crossed for a fine effort but they eventually lost 20-9.

Odsal Sedbergh took over as Division Two leaders after their 32-16 home win over main rivals Todmorden.

Centre Steve Brown, scrum half Darren Collins and stand off Gavin Buckley scored vital tries.

A depleted Queensbury A lost 46-6 at home to Victoria Vikings. Veterans Andy Thornton and Danny Wilcock turned out despite injuries and junior centre Stephen Simpson crossed for their solitary touchdown. Young packman Brett Marriott was outstanding.

Wyke maintained their excellent Division Four form with a 15-12 home win over Boothtown Terriers. Danny Stocks (2) and Andy Grange crossed with Paul Coates converting one and posting a drop goal.

Thornton's defence went to pieces in the second half and that cost them the game 18-10 at Underbank A.

They squandered a 10-0 half-time lead following tries from Damien Birkett and Kevin Daulet, plus a Darren Ellerton conversion.

Silsden Park Rangers beat Dudley Hill Eagles 86-6 in a game that lasted just under an hour.

Player-coach Jon Gwilliam was grateful for the Bradford side turning up and said: "Dudley Hill had only 11 players and I would like to thank them for playing the game. A lot of teams wouldn't have set off without a full team and at least my players got a run out."

Keighley Albion's clash with Wakefield side Westgate Redoubt ended after 65 minutes when the referee abandoned the match because supporters were brawling on the field of play.

Albion were losing 5-4 but looking the stronger side when some fans spilled on to the pitch.

With Westgate down to 12 men and clearly suffering, Albion felt they would have gone on to win the game.

At present the score stands but the final decision rests with the Pennine League's management committee.

Next week Albion entertain Illingworth in the Halifax and District Joseph Fee Memorial Trophy, whilst the second team travel to Moldgreen in the league.
