Cullingworth villagers have been promised that action over the restoration of a controversial waste tip is well underway.
Residents at Cullingworth Neighbourhood Forum heard last night that Bradford Council environmental officers have gathered scientific evidence which they claim proves the Manywells landfill site can be classed as contaminated land.
Council environmental protection officer Brian Anderson said if the site is legally declared to be contaminated steps could be taken to clean it up. He expected the report to be accepted in the next few days. But the villagers also heard that Bradford Council and the Environment Agency have yet to recover any of the £375,000 needed to restore the tip.
