A FURTHER public meeting to discuss the implications of an expanded Leeds Bradford International Airport is to be held tomorrow in Otley.

Following a meeting held in Horsforth, which was attended by more than 150 residents from across Wharfedale, a meeting has been called by Harold Best MP to look at the implications for Otley if passenger numbers quadrupled at the airport by 2030.

The government is currently consulting on the future of air travel in the country for the next 30 years and is asking for people in the area to comment on how they would like to see Leeds Bradford International Airport evolve.

Mr Best said: "There is still time to comment on the consultation. There are already serious problems affecting the environment around the airport's present 'footprint' and it is important that Otley people have the opportunity to take part in the consultation and have their say."

Anthony Rae of Airport-Watch said: "After our meeting in Horsforth, people asked for another to be held in Otley and we are responding to that request. It seems that road traffic is already a great concern in the area."

At the meeting in Horsforth many people raised concerns about the increase in traffic associated with a larger airport and noise from aircraft.

The meeting at St Joseph's RC Primary School, Manor Square tomorrow will start at 7.30pm.

l The consultation runs until November 30. Copies of the consultation document The Future Development of Air Transport in the UK are available by telephoning (0845) 100 5554.
