Kirklees Council's Community Work Team has proved a huge success in its first year after helping residents secure £500,000 funding for projects.
A total of 41 successful bids for funding of between £100 and £100,000 were made with the help of community workers in the team.
The projects included running a community shop, setting up play activities for children and activities for young people, funding for community centres, work on drugs issues, computer learning and an exchange project for people with disabilities.
The team targets areas with high levels of need and aims to encourage community activity, build on community strengths, develop new groups and help those already in operation. The community workers now have a strengthened role in providing funding support to groups as they have trained to become accredited funding advisors.
