A peace group from the 1980s has borrowed its banner back from display at a museum so it can campaign against war on Iraq.

Baildon Peace Group, which disbanded in the mid-90s after the Cold War, presented its colourful banner to Bradford Peace Museum three years ago as an exhibit.

Original member Margaret Fielden, pictured with Sara Clarke, said the threat of military action against Iraq brought about the group's revival and made them decide to borrow it back.

So far ten of the original 30 members had got together to re-form the group but there are still some of its past supporters missing.

Mrs Fielden said: "It's all very informal but there are about ten of us who managed to stay in touch over the years as friends and felt now was the right time for us to get the peace group going again.

"We'd like to hear from anyone who has lost contact with us and would like to join again."

She added: "In the Eighties we opposed Britain's ownership of weapons of mass destruction and now we're back protesting for peace as determined as ever and supporting Bradford Stop The War Coalition at its protests and vigils."

In the 1980s Baildon Peace Group was a familiar sight as its members used to stand regularly on Saltaire roundabout and in Baildon's village centre. To get in touch, call Mrs Fielden on Bradford (01274) 419821.
