Plans for a Low Moor railway station could soon be on track if funds are granted to draw up designs.

The West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Authority is seeking £100,000 from Bradford Council's Local Transport Plan to cover the cost of the designs.

The transport authority said it will only be able to press ahead with submitting plans for the new station once they have been put down on paper and decided on.

Councillor Robert Reynolds (Con, Wyke) said there was a demand from Low Moor residents for a station.

He said: "This has been talked about quite a lot for a long period of time and should be welcomed.

"Older residents will remember when they used to have a station off Cleck-heaton Road.

"The only concern is where exactly to place the station as it needs to be alongside a straight piece of track."

It is thought the station will be built near the former West Yorkshire Transport Park, Transperience, currently being developed by Ogdens.

This would position it within reach of Odsal stadium and the Richard Dunn Sports Centre, near the M606.

The new station is part of the Council's strategy for south Bradford which includes the Manchester Road guided bus system, highway improvements, and bus park and ride schemes.

Councillor Anne Hawkesworth, exec-utive member for the environment, said: "The Low Moor station forms an essential part of our plans to improve access to Bradford from the south. We are fully supportive of and enthusiastic about the scheme."
