Someone's due a hammering and Jason Maxwell thinks it might be Whitby Town.

The bustling striker will play his 200th game for Avenue at home to the Seasiders and is predicting this could be the game where Bradford hit top form.

"We have been winning a lot of games recently without ever playing that well," said Maxwell, who has bagged 79 goals in his 199 games.

"But it is only a matter of time before things come together and we hammer someone - and there is no reason why it can't be Whitby.

"Things are going really well here and there is no reason why we can't win this league.

"I know we couldn't get promoted if we did win the league, but I want that winners' medal in my cabinet."

History suggests there is every chance Whitby could get the thumping Maxwell is promising - Avenue beat them 4-0 in the FA Cup this year and 5-0 in the league cup last campaign.

The powerhouse striker is now into his fifth year with Park Avenue and his never-say-die attitude has made him a firm fans' favourite.

He arrived from Gainsborough Trinity in October 1998 and made his UniBond debut in a home game with Harrogate Town and opened his account in the following match which saw Avenue win 4-3 at Great Harwood Town.

And that remains his favourite strike for the club.

"I picked it up from the half-way line and let fly from 40 yards," said Maxwell proudly.

"That is probably my best goal here, much better than the one against Hull City this year. I can still remember it clearly, it was a great moment, probably the highlight of my time here."

Maxwell, 30, needs just six more to equal Darren Wardman's record for the re-formed club although he remains convinced his midweek penalty shoot-out strike has brought that total down to five.

He is desperate to cap his 200th game with a goal, but it is the season's top-scorer spot he still hankers for.

"Andy Hayward has got 11 now, although if you count his penalty it is 12, and he is the one I want to catch," he added.

"Rory Prendergast has got a few as well, so he is another one I am going to have to watch.

"But in all seriousness I don't really care as long as someone is scoring and we keep on winning."

Full backs Matt Daly and Andy Quinn are likely to miss out due to injuries and Robbie Painter may also struggle to return for a calf problem.

Meanwhile, midfielder Ian Richards is becoming increasingly frustrated waiting for his final clearance to come through from the New Zealand FA and will not know if he is available until the last minute.

New signing Gary Reece is likely to make his league debut.
