Revellers cast off the winter blues and swapped scarves for sunglasses to raise money for a local hospice.

It may have been cold and wet outside but that didn't stop more than 100 people from dressing up in their best summer gear for a fundraising beach party at K2 bar in Keighley.

The event, in aid of Manorlands Sue Ryder Care hospice, was organised by Keighley brewer Timothy Taylor and solicitors Gordons Cranswick, with support from accountants Horwath Clark Whitehill and Travel Options.

Manorlands fundraiser Chris Bown says: "The campaign will have raised around £6,000 to date, which is fantastic, and we are very grateful to everyone involved. "

Staff at the local companies have made the beach party and a midsummer madness party where folk dress up in Christmas clobber annual fixtures.

Ray and Eileen Green from The Boltmakers Arms in Keighley, and Mike and Kath Roper from The Dog and Gun, Oxenhope, won weekend breaks in recognition of their fundraising efforts.

First prize in the raffle of a weekend for two in Venice, donated by Travel Options in Bingley, was won by Taylor's employee Susan Hargreaves .

A charity evening has gifted Manorlands hospice with an early Christmas present.

The social event at The Five Flags Hotel, Cullingworth, raised the grand sum of £3,250 for the Sue Ryder Care hospice in Oxenhope.

The event was held by the Bront Vintage Gathering committee, which also organises harness racing and the annual vintage vehicle gathering in Cullingworth for Manorlands.

Committee members raised the cash through ticket sales, raffle, stalls and a successful auction that realised more than £1,100.

The event brings the total raised by the committee for Manorlands in 2002 to £14,000. Chris Bown added: "All the hard work that is involved in organising these events is very much appreciated by everyone at the hospice."
