A Bingley man has warned that proposals to increase the height of wind turbines on Ovenden Moor, Halifax, could have a visual impact on people living in the town.

Electricity company, Power-Gen, is consulting the public over plans to replace the present 23 turbines with machines which could be twice as high.

The present 45-metre tall masts could be replaced by turbines up to 90 metres in height, a PowerGen spokes-man has confirmed.

Phillip Thresh, of Park Road, Bingley, said he could already see the present wind farm from his living room.

"I can see all 23 turbines. If the go-ahead for the others is given it will be even more of an environmental intrusion.

"I don't like to see prime landscape which is an important national resource being overrun by man-made objects like this. They should be confined to industrial area.

"I'm anxious that people in Bingley and other areas are aware of what the proposals are and what the visual impact will be."

A PowerGen spokesman said no planning application had yet been submitted to Calderdale Council.

Before any proposal was submitted, the public would be widely consulted.

The plan was to remove the present turbines and replace them with taller but fewer and more powerful masts.
